Foreword:
This projects page is the hub of all DefeatThePurpose projects. There are other projects that may not appear here for quite some time (not until they are actively being worked on). For the time being this page will literally just link to Wiki’s associated with each project. Once I drum up the cash to switch to a wordpress.org implementation on a commercial host, I’ll install a more local and native wiki, as opposed to the external ones linked below.
Projects:
The Sultet Odyssey:
The Sultet Odyssey will be DefeatThePurpose’s first commercial venture. Sadly however, due to the sheer size of the concepts involved, as well as the intended extensive content, the Sultet Odyssey will be very many years away. In short, the Sultet Odyssey is a sandbox game. With minimal story, the player traverses through the world doing as he/she pleases, building a successful life through one, or a combination of any dozens of vocations (from farming, to building, to retailing, delivery services, manufacturing, and many many more). In addition, players will be able to swim, jump, run, crawl, roll, drive, slide and even walk. The game will implement an extensive “Inventions” module, in which players will be able to build, describe and submit Inventions for in-game use. These inventions would be manually reviewed, and many would make their way into an in-game market (after the DefeatThePurpose Team customly creates functions associated with the invention).
A large aspect to the Sultet Odyssey concept, is social communications. Every player will start in their own dedicated private village, which, at their own pace, they may open up to the public or their friends. Other players may choose to leave behind their own village to join others, the remaining ghost villages would become open to the public, for dismantling, looting, take-over, etc. As more players begin to congregate in a single village, the village would grow, to a town, a city, eventually gaining the ability to purchase nearby towns, to become a state, or even a nation. States and nations would require governments of sorts. These systems will be defined later. Much later. This social aspect, lends to real time multiplayability. Players will be able to communicate by voice, text, mail, gestures, etc.
There will be “Official” cities as well. DTP will run several centralised environments, open to the public, but largely closed to modification. While the scale is potentially quite large, every ounce of infrastructure will be dependant on the “working force”, players will need to eat, whether they grow their own foods, or buy from the markets. If no one is farming, then players will largely starve (they will not die, but may refuse to perform some certain actions).
The Sultet Odyssey is a Life Simulation Game – that being said, it may not see completion for a decade. In the much less distant future, is the proof-of-concept game; Sultwodee.
Sultwodee:
The name Sultwodee is derived from “The Sultet Odyssey 2D“. It is a primitive form of the above mentioned Sultet Odyssey game. Sultwodee is being actively worked on, taking only certain modules from the grand design. For instance, Sultwodee will focus largely on the farming module and parts of the social aspect. Players will be able to visit and “help” on other players’ farms, but they will not be able to take up residence there. The main features will include:
- Farming module (including animals and crops)
- Mailing system/delivery vocation
- Builder/carpenter vocation
- Multiplayability (the maximum allowed number of players in a single map)
- Economy
- NPC relationships building
- Central City
- Time/Seasons system
- Traveling concepts
Sultwodee is hoped to become available on the Xbox 360 Indie Games arcade within twelve months.
